Special occasions

Special occasions mean different things to different people. One of the universal precepts of human behavior is the need to mark these special occasions with ceremony and ritual. Within Druidry most of these occasions come under the category of rites of passage: the birth of a baby, a baby naming, entering puberty, coming of age, a marriage or handfasting to name a few.

At ACOD Part of the work of ACOD is to provide ceremonies for these special occasions i.e.. Celtic or Druid marriage ceremonies, baby naming, and other rites of passage. We feel that it is a very important part of creating a sense of tribe and community as well as giving special significance and acknowledgment when moving from one phase of your life to another.

Handfasting

A handfasting is a Celtic wedding where by the consenting couple come together and declare their intentions to pair bond (or become partners) by an oath said before witnesses. This Oath lasts for a year and a day, after which time they may renew their vows (in private if they wish) on that anniversary for as long as they wish. It is an ancient ritual dating back for at least 3 thousand years. We have performed many handfasting ceremonies both in the UK and Australia.
